Read this blog post: http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2009-06-07-n71.html and then go to the "Blind Search" link that is mentioned.
Enter a search term and compare the results. Did you choose the results of the search enginge that you usually use? Did it matter if the logo or branding wasn't there? Or, do you like the results or just how the results are displayed?

I did the survey and choose the first column for the topic Breast and cervical cancer. The first column was the bing search engine, which is weired because it did have the main topics that I wanted with more government sites rather than what was going on in other states. I have never used Bing before so this will be a very interesting to see what I can get from this website
ReplyDeleteI think yahoo is good to have for research and if I need to search pictures, bing has more pictures than the other sites. The results and the purpose of the survey were interesting. I should use google more as the most people vote google as the best search engine !!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good way for finding topics without being influenced by the search engine. It is good becase you can decide which one is more convinient for you and it saves you time from going on each search engine website. I searched soccer, and I was looking to find FIFA and I picked the first Search Engine because they had it second. It saves a lot of time!
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting study for sure. I chose to look up the topic Lupus. And I read down each column and i chose the first columnn because it had the main points i was searching for. Its was interesting because i typical use Yahoo search enguine for projects, and then second resort to google. But in this survey I chose Bing. It was eye opening because Bing narrowed down to the main topics. The other engines had surveys from families, and not PDF approved documentation. I think i might use Bing from now on.

I actually chose the one that I usually pick. I chose Google because it seemed as if Google had the most options for the topic that I decided to search for. I know that one search engine doesn't always work the best for every topiuc that you are searching, so it is important if you try multiple search engines for different topics to see which one gives you the best results.
